For the first time in history, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights is hosting a public hearing on the impact of gun violence. Manuel Oliver, father of Parkland massacre victim Joaquin, filed a suit against the government challenging gun policies for violating the right to life. The suit argues the United States failed to protect its citizens from the deadly consequences of gun violence, in violation of international human rights law. Oliver says the U-S has an obligation to prevent gun violence particularly from negligent gun manufacturers, dealers and distributors.
