Road Rangers work to help distressed motorists along I-95 in Florida, but the job proved deadly for one ranger on the Treasure Coast.

The 67-year old was assisting a driver who had pulled over along the left shoulder of the northbound Interstate near mile marker 124 in Port St. Lucie early Saturday morning when he was struck by an SUV.

A 28-year-old Royal Palm Beach man was driving that SUV when he veered off the road and into the Road Ranger and his truck.

An investigation is underway.
