We know the name of a boy who died after being pulled from the water in Boynton Beach.

15-year-old Prestyn Smith went into the ocean near Gulfstream Park on Sunday with his mother and a sibling when they became stuck in a strong current.

"The easiest way to put it is getting beat up. The seas were pretty rough and the rip currents were pulling us back out so we were trying to do the best we could to make sure she got to sure as quick as possible."

Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Captain Steven Permenter and one of his firefighters jumped in and saved the mother and Prestyn's sibling.

Permenter tells CBS 12 News that he was just doing his job and what he's been trained to do. He laments not being able to rescue all three.

Prestyn's body would later be found underwater and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Permenter got sick from taking in too much water and had to be treated at the hospital. He has since been released.

The captain urges beachgoers to swim near lifeguards.
