Hallandale Beach, FL - A 70-year-old cyclist is recovering from his injuries after falling from a rising drawbridge in Hallandale Beach.
The incident occurred on the Hallandale Beach Boulevard drawbridge, just west of Ocean Drive.
Video captured by a witness shows the man hanging from the bridge’s railing before losing his grip and plunging into the water below.
Emergency responders quickly arrived, and the man was rushed to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.
According to police, he was alert and conscious at the time of transport.
“The witness stated she observed and video recorded a person on a bicycle hanging onto the railing of the bridge as the bridge opened up,” police said in their report.
The circumstances leading to the bridge’s sudden rise while the cyclist was crossing remain under investigation.
Authorities have not provided further details on the man's condition.
