FLORIDA - Florida's 2024 election saw nearly 11 million voters, marking the third-highest turnout in 70 years and the highest since the 1992 presidential election.

According to data from the Florida Division of Elections, Florida achieved a historic milestone in voter participation during the November 5 election, with nearly 11 million residents—representing 78.76% of eligible voters—heading to the polls.

This marks the state’s third-highest voter turnout by percentage in the last 70 years, surpassing the turnout for the 2020 election.

The turnout percentage in 2024 is the highest recorded since the 1992 presidential election, when 83% of Florida voters participated in a contest that saw Democrat Bill Clinton defeat incumbent Republican President George H.W. Bush.

The all-time high in turnout was followed by 1968's election, when 73% of voters chose between Republican Richard Nixon and Democrat Hubert Humphrey.

Florida's 2024 turnout represents a nearly 2% increase from 2020, when 77% of eligible voters participated in the race between then-President Donald Trump and then-Vice President Joe Biden.

This year’s strong turnout also resulted in decisive victories for Trump and multiple Republican candidates across the state.

While voter participation surged statewide, Miami-Dade County saw a decline in turnout compared to 2020.

Only 72.35% of eligible voters cast ballots in 2024, down from 74.59% four years earlier.

This placed Miami-Dade among the lowest-performing counties for turnout, ranking third-lowest in the state.

Only DeSoto County (63.91%) and Hardee County (62.68%) reported lower percentages.

In contrast, Broward County experienced a slight increase in voter engagement, with 77.04% turnout in 2024 compared to 76.1% in 2020.

Despite the improvement, both Miami-Dade and Broward lagged behind Monroe County, which ranked in the top 10 statewide with an impressive 85.59% turnout in 2024, up from 84.91% in 2020.

The contrasting voter turnout trends highlight areas of potential growth in civic engagement for South Florida.

While Monroe County continues to set a high standard, Miami-Dade and Broward's performance underscores the need for ongoing efforts to motivate voters and reinforce the importance of participation in the democratic process.
