Miami-Dade, FL - Construction has begun on a new pedestrian bridge at Florida International University, replacing the one that tragically collapsed in 2018.
The construction is underway marking a significant step in the aftermath of the tragic 2018 collapse that claimed six lives.
The new bridge will span Southwest 8th Street, connecting FIU's main campus to its residential areas.
The bridge is designed to improve safety and convenience for students and staff.
The previous bridge collapsed on March 15, 2018, during construction.
The victims included students, faculty, and construction workers.
A memorial plaque honoring their memory will be placed on the new bridge.
To accommodate construction, there will be road closures in the area during overnight hours.
