Fort Lauderdale Police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler caught on video running over a person lying on a curb Sunday.

While the driver is not accused of a crime at this time, police would like the person to come forward.

FLPD identifies the victim as 73-year-old Esperant Lahens who was found by a passerby unresponsive at around 6:25 a.m. Sunday on the 100 block of Northwest 1st Street.

Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced him dead.

Authorities released surveillance video that they allege shows the Jeep driving over the victim who was lying in front of the vehicle around 2 a.m.

Police believe it is possible the driver was unaware a person was under the wheels.

Therefore, the unidentified driver is not accused of a crime at this time, but police would like anyone recognizing the vehicle to assist in their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Russell Brown at 954-828-5754 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
