FLORIDA - Florida voters will decide on Amendment 3 on November 5th, potentially legalizing recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older.

A "yes" vote would legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older, allowing them to possess up to three ounces of marijuana and five grams of cannabis concentrate.

If passed, the amendment would enable medical marijuana treatment centers to sell marijuana for adult use, with potential for the state legislature to license additional businesses to cultivate and distribute marijuana products.

As with all amendments, Amendment 3 requires a 60% majority to become law.

The amendment, if approved, would take effect in May 2025, providing a six-month transition period.

Medic marijuana has been legal in Florida since a 2016 amendment that passed with 71%.

Recreational marijuana would come with specific legislative limitations, such as restrictions on public smoking.

A July 2023 report by the Florida Financial Impact Estimating Conference projects that recreational marijuana sales could generate between $195 million and $430 million annually in state sales tax revenue.

The revenue could then be allocated by the legislature to various areas, such as law enforcement or public education.
