The 39th Annual International Coastal Cleanup takes place tomorrow with dozens of simultaneous events around Miami-Dade County alone.

About 4,000 people in Miami-Dade County alone are expected to pick up trash, and over the first 35 years, cigarette butts were the top offending litter.

VolunteerCleanup.org Executive Director Dara Schoenwald expects to collect about 20,000 pounds of trash during the 70, two-hour long cleanups.

There is also dozen cleanups set for Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Year-round individual cleanups haul in around 500 pounds of trash, but 20,000 pounds of garbage will be collected during the 70 simultaneous cleanups countywide on International Coastal Cleanup Day, according to Schoenwald.
