Miami, FL - Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police before the team's home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Authorities say Hill was pulled over for a traffic violation and placed in handcuffs, despite his compliance with police instructions and the presence of several teammates who intervened on his behalf.

The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.

The Miami Dolphins released a statement expressing their support for Hill and acknowledging the concerns raised by the incident.

Dolphins head coach, Michael McDaniel, praised Hill's teammates, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith, for their actions in standing up for their teammate.

Both Hill and Campbell were detained by police, but were eventually released without charges.

Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, criticized the treatment of his client, stating that it felt like he was not treated fairly.

Sunday’s incident has sparked an internal investigation by the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and raised concerns about racial profiling and excessive force.

MDPD has launched an internal investigation into the officer's actions and has placed the officer on administrative leave pending the outcome of the review.
