Miami, FL - Inter Miami has announced that the opening of its highly anticipated new stadium near Miami International Airport has been pushed back to 2026.
Team owner Jorge Mas had previously indicated a 2025 opening, but the team did not provide a specific reason for the delay in Wednesday's announcement.
Legal challenges and logistical issues have contributed to numerous delays in the project.
Initially, the team aimed to play at the Miami stadium by the start of the 2022 season.
"Miami Freedom Park is a dream come true," said David Beckham, part of the team's ownership group. "I'm thrilled to see this vision finally becoming a reality."
Inter Miami joined Major League Soccer in 2020 and has been playing in a stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
The stadium's capacity was expanded last year following the signing of Lionel Messi.
It remains uncertain whether Messi will ever play in the new stadium.
His contract with Inter Miami extends through 2025 with an option for 2026.
