Man Charged After Neglected Dog With Maggots In Rectum Is Euthanized

Cape Coral, FL - A 26-year-old Southwest Florida man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after his dog died from apparent neglect.

Authorities say Jonathan Urquizo, of Cape Cora, was taken into custody following an emergency visit to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital last Thursday.

Hospital staff reported that a 16-year-old Golden Labrador, named Molly, was brought in with severe neglect, including maggots on her body.

Veterinarians were forced to euthanize the animal due to the extent of her suffering.

After investigating the case, Lee County Sheriff’s Office detectives determined that Urquizo was responsible for Molly’s condition and arrested him.

Detectives say Urquizo committed animal cruelty causing pain/death.
