Lake Worth Beach Man Charged in Fatal Crash Following Police Pursuit

Lake Worth Beach, FL - A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred following a police pursuit.

On August 7th, an Atlantis police officer initiated a traffic stop on an SUV driven by Raekwon Isaiah Johnson after observing a red light violation at the intersection of Lantana Road and Congress Avenue in Lake Worth Beach.

During the stop, the officer detected the odor of marijuana and requested to see Johnson's medical marijuana card, which he was unable to produce.

As the officer requested Johnson's driver's license, the suspect allegedly fled the scene, driving through a red light and colliding with a Ford Escape.

The impact caused the Escape to rotate and strike another vehicle.

The 69-year-old driver of the Escape was tragically pronounced dead at St. Mary's Trauma Center.

Johnson was apprehended on foot a short distance away from the crash site near the South Florida Jewish Cemetery.

He has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
