Former University of Florida President Kent Fuchs begins serving as interim president today.
The move comes after Ben Sasse announced his resignation last month.
The former Republican U.S. Senator from Nebraska says he wants to focus on taking care of his family after his wife was diagnosed with epilepsy. Sasse took over as president of UF in 2023.
Fuchs served as president from 2015 until last year.
The Board of Trustees is expected to launch a national search for a permanent president but no timeline has been provided.
