Governor Ron DeSantis signed a death warrant yesterday for Loran Cole who will be the first person executed in Florida this year.

He killed 18-year-old FSU student John Edwards while he was camping with his sister at Ocala National Forest in 1994.

Cole was also found guilty of sexual battery against Edwards' 21-year-old sister.

“The men who committed these crimes are damnable animals,” then-Marion County Sheriff Ken Ergle said at the time.

57-year-old Cole will be executed August 29th at Florida State Prison.
