Pinellas Commissioners Set To Take Vote on Rays Deal

CLEARWATER -- The Pinellas County Commissioner is set to discuss, and likely vote, on its share of the cost for the new $1.3 billion stadium proposed for the Rays, following approval from St. Petersburg City Council.

The county has to sign off because more than $300 million in tourist taxes will be used to pay for the new ballpark.

Most commissioners appear to favor the deal but at least two expressed serious reservations. Dave Eggers feels "rushed" and says that may motivate him to vote no. Chris Latvala questions whether the team and development deals could be unraveled and sold off individually.

Tuesday's vote comes just after the Rays have traded away three top players, Randy Arozarena, Zach Eflin, and Isaac Paredes.
