Researchers have found new evidence that autism can be diagnosed with a simple stool sample.

Scientists have determined that autistic people have different gut microbes that can be detected in the fecal sample, according to the study.

This test is significantly cheaper and provides a quicker diagnosis than the current three to four years it takes to make a confirmed diagnosis for suspected autism.

Experts say, "The process for diagnosing a child with autism heavily relies on a parent's description of their childā€™s behavior and a professionalā€™s observations. It leaves plenty of room for human error."
