(Miami, FL) -- Hurricane Beryl has now weakened to a Category 3 storm.
The National Hurricane Center says the Caribbean storm has winds of 120 miles-per-hour as it moves away from Jamaica, where it killed at least seven persons. The death toll is expected to rise.
The hurricane is now \southeast of Grand Cayman island and is expected to create dangerous storm surges when it sweeps past the islands later today. Beryl will still be packing hurricane-force winds when it makes landfall on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Friday. The storm could affect southern Texas by Monday.
