Miami, FL - A South Florida man is facing charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter following a deadly crash in April.
Authorities allege 42-year-old Jose Milton Izaguirre Ortiz disregarded a red light while driving under the influence on April 28th.
The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Northwest 95th Street and 17th Avenue, tragically claimed the life of Meyling Romero Munoz, a passenger in another vehicle.
According to police reports, Ortiz, driving a Ram pickup truck, collided with a Chevrolet Colorado traveling south on 17th Avenue, striking its passenger side.
Data from Ortiz's vehicle indicated he never attempted to brake before the collision.
A third vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz, was also struck in the incident, injuring its driver.
Investigators allege Ortiz exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and an alcoholic odor.
A subsequent blood test confirmed a blood alcohol content exceeding the legal limit. He reportedly admitted to drinking after the crash.
Ortiz's bond was set at $16,000, but he remains incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center due to an immigration hold.
