Port Orange, FL - A man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a vodka bottle before swimming to a nearby island to evade capture.
The assault occurred on June 23rd and was captured by police body camera footage.
According to police, the victim reported that the suspect, identified as Jeriel Joiner, struck her with a vodka bottle, choked her, and wrapped a rope around her neck, causing a suspected broken arm.
Bystanders intervened, but Joiner escaped by swimming to an island.
Police, assisted by MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife, arrested Joiner on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery by strangulation.
