Fired Employee Returns To South Florida Barber Shop, Shoots Ex Co-Worker

Pembroke Pines, FL - A Pembroke Pines barber shop shooting left a victim in critical condition after a workplace dispute led to a fired employee returning and shooting his former co-worker.

According to Pembroke Pines Police Department officials, the shooting occurred at Halftime Barber Shop, located at 15677 Pines Blvd.

Responding officers found the victim outside a nearby Publix supermarket suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back.

Authorities confirm that the shooting stemmed from a workplace dispute. 

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jesus L. Santiago-Zabala, was reportedly fired from the barbershop the day before. 

He returned on Friday to confront his former co-worker, resulting in the shooting.

Witness Sally Lewis, described the chaotic scene to WPLG, telling the news outlet: "I was about to enter Publix when I heard what I thought was an exhaust pipe. Then everyone started running, and I saw someone hiding behind a car. That's when I realized it was a shooting."

Another witness, Andrea Paz, who works near the barbershop, told WPLG, "We heard a gunshot while working, and then saw police with guns enter the barbershop."

Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for critical injuries.

Police apprehended Santiago-Zabala and charged him with attempted murder.
