An investigation is underway after a body was recovered from a retention pond in Vero Beach.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office says an employee at the Sam's Club went on break Sunday evening and went around the back of the building, where the body was located. Authorities were dispatched to the scene and pulled the body from the water.

All that's known is it was the body of a man, but there was no I.D. on him. Officials say he was a local homeless man but his name has not been released.

The medical examiner's office will determine how he died and if any foul play was involved.
