There is probable cause that a former Florida sheriff had taken part in election interference.

Florida's ethics commission has found probable cause against former St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara.

Action was taken earlier this month by the panel on more than thirty cases, fifteen of which involved probable cause hearings to determine if allegations were grounds for disciplinary proceedings.

One matter focused on Mascara improperly using his office and resources to assist a campaign that was aimed at preventing a candidate from opposing him. Ultimately, the commission found probable cause that he used his position to interfere in an election.

Mascara served as Sheriff for more than twenty years before stepping down abruptly in December, citing health issues.
