Man Arrested For Exposing Himself, Setting His Dog on Fire

Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach man is in custody after allegedly exposing himself, setting his dog on fire, and resisting arrest at a Daytona Beach hotel.

According to Daytona Beach police, officers responded to a call on Tuesday regarding a man acting erratically at the Wyndham Hotel and Resort on North Atlantic Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located 65-year-old Michael Zellars standing naked in front of the hotel.

According to his arrest affidavit, Zellars initially disobeyed police commands but was eventually apprehended after a brief struggle.

Hotel security told police Zellars arrived in a black truck and exposed himself before setting his dog on fire with a lighter.

The dog sustained superficial injuries and was taken into care by animal control officers.

Zellars faces charges of felony animal cruelty, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, obstruction of an officer, possession of a controlled substance, and violation of probation.

A search during his arrest uncovered a plastic bag containing suspected fentanyl.

Zellars remains in custody in Volusia County without bond.
