Thief Steals from Premature Baby's Fund at Metro Diner

Port Charlotte, FL - A plea for help has gone out from Metro Diner in Port Charlotte after a thief stole a tip jar containing nearly $2,000 meant for a beloved employee facing a difficult situation.

The money was intended to help kitchen manager Andrea cover the unexpected costs associated with the birth of her premature baby. Security footage captured the suspect entering the diner, reading a sign about the fundraiser, then stealing the tip jar before fleeing on a bicycle.

"I can't shake the image," said Karen Yen, managing partner of Metro Diner. "We've reviewed the video countless times, even searching the streets hoping to find him."

The theft has left the staff heartbroken, particularly since the suspect lingered by the sign explaining the purpose of the fundraiser. "It's hard to trust people anymore," said server Jennie Klugerman. "This is just awful."

Despite the setback, Metro Diner remains determined to support Andrea. They've implemented a secure system for collecting donations and are actively working with authorities to identify the culprit.

"The police have been involved since day one," Yen confirmed.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community. While the stolen money is a significant loss, the diner hopes to raise awareness and encourage others to contribute to Andrea's cause.

"It's truly disheartening that someone would steal from a child in need," Yen said. "We understand that people face hardships, but this situation is especially critical."

Metro Diner is urging anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. They are also accepting donations for Andrea's family through a secure method at the restaurant.
