Tampa Council Votes On Wish List for Community Tax Renewal

TAMPA -- Thursday morning, Tampa city council talks about what to do with the money, if Hillsborough voters renew the half-cent sales tax for another 15 years this fall.

Tampa's wish list will be based on the city's estimated share of 783 million dollars.

It includes 191 million dollars for transportation, including sidewalks, pavement, bridge repairs and pedestrian safety. Another 339 million goes to police and fire trucks and buildings. The rest of the money would go to Raymond James Stadium, Amalie Arena, and parks, but none of it can be used on new stadiums or arenas.

Under terms of the renewal ordinance passed by Hillsborough commissioners in April, the city has to provide a list of potential projects and hold a public hearing.
