Fort Myers, FL - A man was shot and killed by police on Sunday after allegedly murdering and dismembering his roommate at a Southwest Florida residence.
Fort Myers police responded to a call shortly before midnight on June 9th at a residence on Grand Avenue and Waltman Street.
A woman reported that her husband, identified as 33-year-old Willy Lumaine, had killed their roommate inside their home.
According to the woman, tensions between Lumaine and the victim had been ongoing, culminating in Lumaine's announcement to leave due to the heat.
After he left, the woman recounted hearing screams for help from their roommate before fleeing with her children to seek help from neighbors.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the front door open and a trail of blood leading inside.
Police discovered Lumaine armed with a large knife and what appeared to be a human torso in the back of the house.
Lumaine reportedly smashed a window and approached officers.
Police deployed tasers, but they were ineffective.
The officers then discharged their service weapons, striking Lumaine.
Medical attention was provided, but Lumaine succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A search of the home revealed the victim's remains scattered throughout the house, with the head located near an outside trash can.
The Fort Myers Police Department is leading the investigation into the homicide.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting a separate investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
The two officers who fired their weapons and the two who deployed tasers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
