The Florida Panthers waited several hours for the flight to take off Wednesday in advance of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Panthers chose to practice at home Wednesday before hopping on the flight.
Heavy storms and a temporary ground stop forced the charter jet to take off three hours after their scheduled departure.
Their plane is scheduled to land at about 8 p.m. in Edmonton, less than 24 hours before they face the Oilers on Thursday. The distance between Sunrise and Edmonton is over 2500 miles - the furthest distance between two Stanley Cup Finals teams in NHL history.
The Panthers are up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.
