Tampa Cops Arrest Second Driver In Deadly Racing Crash

TAMPA -- A second suspect is in custody from that crash that killed a woman last week on Dale Mabry.

Tampa police say 19-year-old Daniel Hernandez was driving a black Camaro seen racing another car at the time of the crash June 3rd at Dale Mabry Highway and West South Street, near Raymond James Stadium,.

That car left without stopping. Police got a tip and interviewed Hernandez and his girlfriend, arresting him late Monday night. Tampa police Traffic Homicide Officer Rick Wilson says they're determined to stop street racing in Tampa. "With what we're seeing on the streets it is incredibly frustrating. The dangers of street racing are very real... we in Tampa are tired of it... if you see something, report it, let us know so we can stop it." Several local agencies, including the Hillsborough and Pinellas Sheriff's Offices and the Florida Highway Patrol, have conducted operations targeting street racing.

The driver accused of racing Hernandez, 22-year-old Andy Robaina, remains jailed without bond. His charges include Vehicular Homicide. Hernandez faces that charge as well as the charge of leaving the scene of a deadly crash. A 63-year-old victim in a car crossing Dale Mabry was struck and killed.
