Florida City, FL - A South Florida woman was arrested Monday after a 2-year-old boy tested positive for cocaine following a hospital visit the previous night.
Authorities say 30-year-old Stephanie Ann Johnson, of Homestead, has been charged with felony child neglect and cocaine possession.
Police reports say that Johnson picked up the boy from her brother’s house in Homestead on Sunday.
After stopping at Wendy’s, she took the child to a man’s house in Florida City, where she was helping to clean.
The arrest report does not clarify whether Johnson is the child’s mother.
While Johnson was cleaning the bathroom, the man reportedly brought the boy in, claiming the child had sprayed bleach on his face and in his eyes.
Johnson attempted to rinse the boy’s face with water before having the man drive them to Homestead Hospital.
A nurse at Homestead Hospital reported that the child had bumps on his nose, redness on his face, and was unable to open his eyes due to the bleach.
Additionally, the boy was “shaking from the cocaine,” and was airlifted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
A test confirmed the boy had cocaine in his system.
Officers found a baggie of cocaine in Johnson’s pocket and two empty baggies in her purse.
Authorities noted that Johnson had an ongoing case with the Florida Department of Children and Families at the time of her arrest.
She is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
