Additional safety measures being implemented during the final days of school across South Florida. Broward School Board member Brenda Fam says there are no backpacks allowed from today until next Monday when school ends as part of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Act. Lunches are allowed in a small box or bag. Miami-Dade's school year ends Thursday; backpacks are not allowed for the last three days of school. The goal is to reduce the number of items students can bring in a preemptive strike against unwanted behaviors that could potentially hurt other students.
