Cape Canaveral, FL - The Coast Guard rescued a captain and 6 others after lightning disabled their boat near Cape Canaveral.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced the rescue after the 24-foot vessel was struck by lightning and disabled off the coast of Cape Canaveral on Saturday.
The lightning strike knocked out power to the boat, leaving it adrift two miles east of Cape Canaveral.
The Coast Guard airlifted the captain for medical treatment, while the remaining six passengers were safely brought ashore at Jetty Park boat ramp, where emergency medical services were waiting.
"Bravo Zulu to the crew for getting the family and captain to shore safely!" said the Cape Canaveral Coast Guard station in a social media post.
The Coast Guard urged boaters to monitor weather conditions closely before and during outings as summer approaches.
The Coast Guard also reported that the disabled vessel was anchored and a safety alert was issued to nearby mariners.
The boat's owner is working with commercial salvage crews to recover the vessel.
An update on the captain’s condition had not been shared at the time of this report.
