Blue-green algae alerts have been issued for waters in Palm Beach and Martin counties.
The Florida Department of Health on Friday said toxic algae has been found in Lake Okeechobee, by the Pahokee Marina, and in canals off Kanner Highway and Conners Highway just to the east of the lake.
Health officials warn against swimming or even boating in the affected waterways and they're being told to keep their pets away from the marina and canals, as they are also at risk.
