A Property Rights bill targeting squatters has been signed into law. It gives law enforcement the power to immediately evict and arrest anyone living in another person's home without their permission.
Justin Melkarick says squatters moved into his neighborhood bringing guns, drugs, prostitution and other threatening activities.
"The police would arrest the drug buyers but never the squatters. The police [officer's] hands were tied. This was a civil matter that had to go through the courts," said Melkarik.
The new law makes squatting a crime instead of a civil case that takes weeks or months to approve an eviction.
