Middle School Teacher Arrested For Inappropriate Conduct with Student

Hollywood, FL - A South Florida teacher faces serious charges following her arrest on Wednesday for alleged inappropriate contact with a female student.

Authorities say 38-year-old Felicia Smith, a language arts teacher at Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood, allegedly engaged in inappropriate contact with a female student.

According to investigators, the alleged inappropriate conduct began when Smith developed a "maternal relationship" with the student at the beginning of the school year.

The relationship escalated to Smith kissing the student on school grounds, leaving a visible mark.

Upon noticing the mark, the student's guardian received conflicting reports from the student who claimed the mark was from a football injury.

However, further investigation revealed the student had been skipping PE classes for weeks to spend time in Smith's classroom.

Following further questioning by her guardian, the student admitted the mark was a hickey given to her by Smith.

The student’s guardian contacted school administrators, and the student alleged additional inappropriate touching by Smith.

Hollywood Police arrested Smith on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and lewd and lascivious battery.

Police are actively investigating the incident and working with the Broward School Board.

A Broward County Public Schools spokesperson released a statement regarding Smith’s arrest, stating "The safety of our students is always our top priority. The school district is fully cooperating with the investigation. The teacher has been reassigned away from the school and students pending the outcome of the case."
