A fallen deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has been moved to a new resting place.

A ceremony was held on Thursday at Daytona Memorial Park in Volusia County, where Deputy Frank Genovese was interred at the newly formed "Heroes Garden."

Deputy Genovese was shot and killed in the line of duty on September 13, 1982. He was taking part in a SWAT team operation during a four hour standoff with an armed suspect in Greenacres when the suspect was threatening to blow up his apartment. He eventually surrendered and was later acquitted after a defense attorney successfully convinced a jury that an officer's return fire may have killed Deputy Genovese.

A U.S. Army veteran, Genovese had served with PBSO for 16 months and prior to that he was a Daytona Beach Police officer.

The Sheriff's Office says that Genovese is now resting next to his dear friend, who was also killed in the line of duty...Daytona Beach Police Officer Sam Etheredge Jr. His End of Watch was on Christmas Day in 1980.
