Miami-Dade, FL - Police are investigating a disturbing case after the remains of several stolen horses were discovered slaughtered in southwest Miami-Dade on Friday.

Authorities located the horses in a rural area near Southwest 124th Avenue and Southwest 197th Avenue, following reports of their disappearance from a nearby farm overnight.

Aerial footage captured by news helicopters revealed the remains of three horses lying off a trail in a grassy field.

Among the victims was Paloma, a beloved therapy horse who brought comfort and support to children and individuals struggling with mental health challenges.

"It's heartbreaking to see this happen," said David Yepez, Paloma's owner. "She touched the lives of so many people, and her absence will be deeply felt."

Investigators believe the horses were deliberately taken to the secluded location before being slaughtered, possibly for their meat.

However, authorities emphasize the dangers of consuming horse meat due to the medications these animals often receive.

"Consuming horse meat is not safe for human consumption," warned Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. "The medications horses are given to maintain their health can be harmful if ingested by humans."

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen horses or the individuals responsible for their slaughter is urged to contact the Miami-Dade Police Department at (305) 471-2211.
