Escaped Inmate Leads Deputies on Wild Chase, Ends Up Back in Cell

Moore Haven, FL - A Glades County jail inmate's escape attempt ended in a chaotic car chase, stolen vehicles, and a crash, before being recaptured by deputies.

Quinton Pete, the daring escapee, slipped out of the jail's exercise yard Wednesday afternoon.

A watchful school resource officer at Moore Haven High School spotted him scaling the fence and making his way through the nearby elementary school parking lot.

Promptly alerting the Glades County Sheriff's Office, the officer set off the chase.

His next stop was a Moore Haven post office, where deputies identified him thanks to the school resource officer's description.

Cornered, Pete made a desperate move, attempting to carjack a mail carrier.

He lunged to pull her out, but the quick-thinking mail carrier locked her doors, foiling his plan.

Undeterred, Pete hopped on a nearby bicycle, pedaling furiously towards Legend Moto ATV shop.

Spotting a running, unoccupied pickup truck, he saw his chance and hopped in, leading deputies on a wild chase.

In a final act of defiance, Pete even hurled tools from the truck at pursuing officers.

His luck finally ran out when he rammed into another car.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the crash. Taken to the hospital for a quick check-up, Pete was soon back in the confines of the Glades County Jail.

Facing a slew of charges – escape, attempted carjacking, grand theft auto, fleeing to elude, and throwing deadly missiles from a vehicle – Pete's brief taste of freedom came at a steep price.
