Bal Harbour Residents Upset Over Possible Shops Expansion Plan

Upset residents expected to sound off in Bal Harbour tonight during a meeting over the proposed expansion of the Bal Harbour Shops to include new residential and retail space plus a hotel. Mayor Jeffrey Freimark says the plan calls for six hundred high-end residential units, seventy hotel rooms and towers that are more than 250-feet high. The current height limit is fifty-six feet, but the developers want to override local zoning rules under Florida's new Live Local Act giving them additional rights when building affordable housing.
