(Tallahassee, Fla) - Florida State University held an emergency meeting this morning to discuss the football team leaving the NCAA Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

FSU President Richard McCullough introduced the possibility of its football team leaving the ACC due to the league's financial concerns during a virtual gathering with the school's board of trustees.

The board approved FSU's move to legally challenge the ACC's constitutional withdrawal penalty of up to $600 million.

The attorney representing FSU, David Ashburn, called this an unenforceable penalty under anti-trust law.

He announced that he is filing a complaint against the ACC alleging breach of contract and violation of antitrust law.

The board clarified that the move is not out of retribution for FSU being left out of the College Football Playoff earlier this month, despite winning the ACC championship and finishing undefeated.

Responding to criticism that this debate is being held publicly, board chairman Peter Collins referred to Florida's Sunshine Law.
