Miami-Dade, FL - A 47-year-old band teacher at South Dade Senior High School was arrested on Tuesday on two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Authorities say the accused teacher, identified as Scott Michael Davis, also faces two charges of offenses against students by authority figures and a count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The arrest followed a year-long investigation initiated by a tip to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
According to police, Davis began a relationship with the victim, one of his band students, almost a year ago during the student's mental health crisis over a breakup.
Davis allegedly maintained emotional support for the victim, with their sexual relationship beginning in September.
The arrest report details instances of inappropriate behavior in the school's band room, where Davis and the victim would touch and kiss.
Davis also reportedly picked up the minor from his home and took him to a location in Cutler Bay for sexual activities in his car.
Davis, who was recently honored as "Teacher of the Year," confessed to the crimes.
In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Miami-Dade County Public Schools stated on Wednesday, "After a thorough investigation by the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, the individual’s employment with the District was terminated, and he was subsequently arrested."
The spokesperson emphasized that such conduct would not be tolerated, ensuring that Davis would be prevented from seeking future employment with the district.
As of Wednesday, Davis remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $16,000 bond.
