Son Attacks Elderly Mother and Flees in Stolen Car, Arrested Days Later

Miami-Dade, FL - A 45-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday after assaulting his elderly mother in public and stealing her car.

According to Miami-Dade police, the incident unfolded in the parking lot of La Colonia Medical Center at 8746 SW 24th St. around 2 p.m. on Friday.

The victim disclosed to officers that she had picked up her son in the vicinity of Southwest 97th Avenue and 24th Street.

An argument between the two transpired as she was behind the wheel, leading her to pull over into the medical center's parking lot and put her car in park.

The arrest report reveals that the victim's son, identified as Enrique Rodriguez, exited the vehicle, approached the driver's side, and forcibly removed his mother by her arm.

Rodriguez allegedly threw his mother to the ground and subjected her to a brutal physical assault.

He then demanded his mother's car keys, which she reluctantly surrendered.

Rodriguez quickly assumed the driver's seat and made a hasty getaway.

The victim was able to provide law enforcement with a positive identification of her son in a photograph.

Rodriguez was located on Sunday and arrested on charges of robbery/carjacking and battery on a person aged 65 or older.

As of Monday afternoon, he was still confined to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bail set at $13,000.
