Local law enforcement agencies are monitoring various channels of communication to ensure the ongoing safety of South Florida Jewish and Palestinian communities. Broward Sheriff gregory Tony earlier this week, on WIOD, said he has extra deputies patrolling area synagogues, mosques and college campuses, and that he is coordinating with the FBI to ensure ongoing safety on the heels of the ongoing war raging in Israel.
There have been several arrests in connection to local Pro-Israel and Pro-Palestine (#FreePalestine) demonstrations in Fort Lauderdale and at Florida Atlantic University this week.
Hollywood Police shared a statement:
“The safety of our citizens is the Hollywood Police Department’s top priority. Due to the recent attacks that began in Israel over the weekend, HPD immediately began providing enhanced and high-visibility patrols in our Jewish neighborhoods, schools, parks, and places of worship. HPD is also continuing to monitor social media for any protests that could impact our city and deploying officers to those locations. We will continue to support our residents as their safety and security is our priority. We ask our residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. If you see something, say something, and call police immediately.”
