Altercation in Taco Bell Parking Lot Leads to Arrest Over Headlight Dispute

Key West, FL - A man's displeasure over the brightness of another vehicle's headlights at a Key West Taco Bell resulted in his arrest after he brandished a firearm and threatened the other driver.

The Key West Police Department say the incident unfolded at the Taco Bell located at 2338 N. Roosevelt Blvd. as the victims were placing their food order through the Taco Bell app.

Around 9:25 p.m., the victim noticed 52-year-old Johnathon Michael Mashburn, who appeared to be under the influence, entering the drive-thru line in his SUV.

After parking his SUV next to the victims' truck, Mashburn confronted the driver about their vehicle's high beams.

According to his arrest report, Mashburn exited his SUV, and appeared unsteady on his feet as he retrieved items from the rear of his vehicle, before re-entering the vehicle.

As Mashburn proceeded to reverse his SUV, a woman lowered her window and cautioned him, telling Mashburn, "You're about to hit us!"

After parking his vehicle, Mashburn loudly exclaimed, "What's your issue? You've got your high beams on!"

Mashburn then allegedly brandished a semi-automatic pistol and threatened the victims by saying, "You know where you’re at? I'll [expletive] kill you! You're in Florida."

One of the victims began recording the incident on their smartphone, prompting Mashburn to flee the scene.

The arrest report states that Mashburn later told police that the duo had brandished a firearm at him initially.

However, law enforcement clarified that while the woman did possess a firearm in her handbag, it was unloaded, with the magazine stored separately.

Authorities noted that Mashburn "retracted" his accusation shortly thereafter.

Mashburn was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was still in custody at a Monroe County detention facility as of Tuesday, with a bond set at $100,000.
