(Virginia Key, Fla) - The Virginia Key Beach Park was opened for Blacks to use in 1945, but forty years later it was closed by the City of Miami.

Then in 1999, the Miami City Commission established the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust to oversee the development of the historic park property.

Saturday, the Trust will host a community vision workshop to discuss the planning process for a park museum.

"Join Chairwoman Christine King for a community visioning session to discuss the planning process in establishing a civil rights museum park on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, 4020 Virginia Beach Drive (Park Office), Miami, FL 33149 at 10:00AM."

The "Building Our Legacy" community workshop for the historic park museum was organized to advance the park's projects with the help of Miami Dade County, the City of Miami, the Board of Trustees, and community members who care about the park’s preservation.

The Virginia Key Beach Park is located off the Rickenbacker Causeway.
