Drunk Man Arrested for Stabbing Woman with Broken Glass Beer Bottle

Fort Myers, FL - An intoxicated Southwest Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a woman with a broken beer bottle.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Douglas Ferreira was arrested following the assault on a woman in the Maravilla neighborhood of Fort Myers on Sunday.

Sharon Mossman, a witness to the assault, tells NBC 2 News, "I could hear a woman screaming like she was being murdered."

Mossman says she was returning from church when she came upon the scene and observed Ferreira armed with the broken beer bottle and a gun.

Mossman tells NBC 2 News the victim fled to a nearby Muslim church for safety, but before she could find refuge inside, Ferreira stabbed her with the broken glass, leaving a 4-inch long cut.

Paramedics responded to the scene and provided medical assistance, transporting the victim to the hospital.

Investigators say that Ferreira fled to a neighbor's trailer and hid inside.

The neighbor alerted their landlord, who informed authorities, and SWAT Team members arrived at the scene to take Ferreira into custody.

According to his arrest report, Ferreira was so inebriated that he couldn't provide a coherent statement to authorities.

Ferreira has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and was released on bond.
