(Miami, Fla) - Before deferring their vote until September 19th, Miami Dade Commissioners entertained public comment this morning on the proposal to extend the lease agreement to add a water park in Zoo Miami's overflow parking lot.
Attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity spoke against the Miami Wilds water park extension arguing that the National Park Service failed to complete required environmental reviews.
Miami Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava agreed to delay the vote to ensure all environmental impacts are addressed. The commission chair agreed to allow additional public comment if any changes are made to the proposal.
If approved, the "Miami Wilds" water park is expected to generate $120-million-dollars in county revenue over the next four decades.
The water park would include seven water slides, three kid-friendly attractions, lazy river, wave pool, and family-friendly hotel.
