The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is receiving a failing grade for quality of care.

The one-star rating out of a possible five stars has been given to the hospital at the corner of Military Trail and the Bee Line Highway by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

The facility, which serves about 60,000 veterans in South Florida, is one of only nine in the nation to receive a one-star rating and the number is based on things like death rates for patients with heart failure, surgical complications, hospital-acquired infections and patient satisfaction.

The rating period was between 2018 and 2022 and a hospital administrator says the local VA is focused on improving care, ensuring no one is discharged before they're ready and that patients get appropriate follow-up care.
