Florida Mother Charged After Admitting to Strangling 13-Year-Old Son

Osceola County, FL - A Florida mother who confessed to authorities that she strangled her 13-year-old son has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Jasmin Kennedy is facing an upgraded charge of first-degree premeditated murder.

Initially, Kennedy faced charges of domestic battery by strangulation, child neglect, and aggravated child abuse.

The decision to pursue more serious charges hinged upon the findings of the medical examiner regarding the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

Following consultation with the medical examiner, law enforcement officials recommended the heightened charge against Kennedy, who made her first appearance before a judge on Tuesday.

During her hearing, Kennedy was assigned a public defender and was ordered to be held without bail.

On Monday, deputies responded to a residence on Crosley Avenue at approximately 7:30 a.m., where they discovered the lifeless body of the young boy in a bed.

Kennedy disclosed to deputies that she had taken her son's life by choking him on his bed.

Authorities say Kennedy is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The motive behind Monday's murder has yet to be revealed.
