Miami-Dade County, FL - A prominent PGA Tour golfer has been arrested after police allege that he engaged in an incident of domestic violence against his wife at their residence in southwest Miami-Dade over the weekend.
The incident, which occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, unfolded at the home of golfer Erik Compton, located in the Glenvar Heights vicinity of Miami-Dade.
According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, a verbal argument between Compton, 43, and his wife transpired, stemming from "relationship issues."
The situation escalated when Compton's wife began recording the exchange using her cellphone.
Compton reportedly seized the phone from his wife's possession and discarded it into their swimming pool before physically confronting her and forcefully pushing her against a wall.
As a result of the altercation, the wife sustained minor bruises on her left arm.
Following the incident, Compton's wife departed the residence, seeking refuge at a friend's home before contacting police to report the incident.
Compton exercised his right to legal representation and chose not to provide a statement to law enforcement regarding the episode.
He was arrested on charges of strong-armed robbery, classified as a second-degree felony, and misdemeanor battery.
Compton was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and was subsequently released on bond.
